Here is an easy recipe for the basic meat hard shell american taco... As I have mentioned before, this is not at all how actual Mexicans have their tacos, not that there is anything wrong with this taco recipe, but its not mexican! I have listed here the individual spices part of the Tex-Mex spice mix, as I like to make my own mix; but you can use your favorite fajita seasoning spice mix as well if you prefer. Key to success in making these tacos is in the spices you will use...
* 1 lb. (500 g) lean ground veal or beef
* 1 teaspoon butter
* 1 onion, finely chopped
* 1 can (5.5 oz) tomato paste
* 1 teaspoon chili powder
* 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
* 2 teaspoons cumin powder
* 2 teaspoons paprika
* 1/2 teaspoon salt, or as per taste
* 8 hard taco shells
* 2 red tomatoes, chopped
* 1 romaine lettuce head, shredded
* 1/2 cup grated orange cheddar cheese
Preparation:
1) Peel and chop the onion. In a non-stick skillet with melted butter, brown ground beef and chopped onion until the meat is cooked.
2) Add tomato sauce and all tex-mex spices (Chili powder, Cumin, Paprika, Salt) to the meat and cook a few minutes, uncovered, stirring occasionally. The meat mixture.
3) Preheat oven to 350 ˚F (180 ˚C). Wash the tomatoes and lettuce; chop the tomatoes to small cubes, shred the lettuce head. Grate the cheddar cheese.
4) Prepare each taco shells, the following way: first divide the meat among 8 tacos, place some tomatoes over the meat, then some lettuce; top with grated orange cheddar cheese.
5) Arrange the filled taco shells on a baking sheet and heat them up in pre-heated oven for 5 minutes. Serve your Tex-Mex tacos immediately.
